Healing Garden Opening

Our Healing Garden Officially Opened Today

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Society, Inc. collaborated with D’Youville College School of Pharmacy and Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, part of Catholic Health in 2011 to create an indoor Medicinal Garden. After several years of success of the indoor Medicinal Garden, the outdoor Healing Garden was planned. This morning, the collaborators will officially open the Healing Garden.

The Garden was planted as part of the 2014 Leaf a Legacy project, allowing local landscapers to join together annually in a non-competitive environment to give a face lift to a public space within Frederick Law Olmsted’s system of parks and parkways. Because of the generosity of time, materials and manpower, PlantWNY kicked off construction of this meaningful project in July 2014.

Officially opening today, the Healing Garden will be open seasonally, March through October. It is a place for spiritual healing, meditation and reflection where visitors can enjoy the simple healing power of the natural world. Many of the plants in the Healing Garden also possess medicinal properties. The indoor Medicinal Garden is open year round from 10am-5pm Monday-Sunday.
