Poinsettias, Railways, Santa and More Holiday Fun Announced at the Botanical Gardens!

Erin Grajek

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced that their annual Poinsettia and Railway Exhibit will run November 29 through January 5.  They also announced that their annual Santa’s Workshop event and a new Terrarium Make-It, Take-It Workshop for kids will take place on December 14.  A BuffaLove Dollar Admission Day will round out the fun on December 27 to celebrate the holiday season.

The whole family will enjoy the Botanical Gardens’ annual holiday tradition, the Poinsettia and Railway Exhibit.  This stunning exhibit includes over 1,000 beautiful poinsettias, holiday decorations and some playful surprises.  Poinsettias are native to Mexico and are often found in tropical forests. There are over 100 different cultivated varieties of poinsettias in existence that come in a spectrum of colors.  A Garden Railway display, that is made possible by the Western New York Garden Railway Society, complements the surrounding poinsettias. Kids and adults will enjoy the Poinsettia and Railway Exhibit November 29 through January 5 from 10:00am until 4:30pm daily. Organizers would like to make a special note a few special holiday hours - the Botanical Gardens will be open 10:00am-12:00pm on December 24 and December 31 and will be closed to the public on December 25.

Santa Claus will visit the Botanical Gardens on December 14 from 10:00am until 4:00pm for Santa’s Workshop.  Visits with Santa, holiday themed hands-on activities, a fun self-guided scavenger hunt and more will be included with Santa’s Workshop.  Photo prints with Santa will also be available for $5.00 each. Santa’s Workshop is sponsored by Wegmans and Fidelis Care

Admission tickets to the Poinsettia and Railway Exhibit and Santa’s Workshop are included with admission to the Botanical Gardens; $12.50 for adults, $11.00 for seniors (62+), $11.00 for students (13+), $7.00 for kids 3-12, Garden Members and kids two and under are free.  Tickets can be purchased online at buffalogardens.com or at the door.

Kids will have the opportunity to make a very special holiday gift for a loved one at the Terrarium Make-It, Take-It Workshop on December 14.  This fun, hands-on workshop will allow kids to make a home for baby tropical plants in a low maintenance, enclosed terrarium.  This workshop is offered at 10:00am or 2:00pm and is $20 for the general public and $15 for Botanical Gardens’ Members. Register online at buffalogardens.com or by calling 716.827.1584 ext. 730.

Stop by the Botanical Gardens during the holiday break from school and on December 27 for a BuffaLove Dollar Admission Day from 10:00am-4:30pm.  Admission is only $1.00 (Botanical Gardens’ members and kids 2 and under are always free) and tickets can be purchased at the door.
