Botanical Gardens’ Great Plant Sale Pre-Orders due April 5

Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announces their Great Plant Sale Pre-Order. The Horticulture Team and Volunteer Committee have chosen a unique list of perennials, shrubs, and annuals to be a part of this exclusive sale. There is an impressive selection of new plants this year and orders are due April 5.

Experts have hand-picked a special group of plants called Hot Picks (HP). Hot Picks are the newest, most unique plants that will make a splash in any garden. For another year the Botanical Gardens is honored to welcome back Proven Winners™ (PW) plants. Proven Winners™ is a company that searches the world to find and select plants which are clearly superior to others of their type in trials in Michigan, New Hampshire, California, Germany, Japan, and Florida. Once a Proven Winners plant makes it to your house, you'll fall in love.

Perennials include: Acanthus spinosus which is a bold perennial that is great for cut flowers and is best used in borders; Echinacea ‘Rainbow Marcella’ (HP) has an exquisite color spectrum; Eupatorium ‘Pink Frost’ is a great foliage accent plant; Helenium autumnale ‘Salsa’ is valued for vibrant late summer color and is great for cut flowers; Heucherella ‘Sweet Tea’ has an impressive bold habit with beautiful tea-color tones with a cinnamon star pattern; Hosta ‘Dancing Queen’ is a standout centerpiece for your garden; Kniphofia ‘Solar Flare’® (PW) is a must for all perennial gardeners; Penstemon ‘Midnight Masquerade’® (PW) (HP) is great for sun gardens; Polemonium ‘Brise D’Anjou’ is a truly exquisite variegated cultivar; Pulmonaria ‘Pretty in Pink’ is a classic shade perennial.  Perennials are $10 each.

Shrubs include: a very unusual butterfly bush named Buddleia ‘Wisteria Lane’(HP); Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Harlequin’(HP) is a must for Hydrangea collectors; Physocarpus ‘Ginger Wine’® (PW) is a low maintence shrub that adds tons of interest to your garden; Spirea ‘Double Play Blue Kazoo’® (PW) is noted for its extraordinary foliage; Syringa ‘Bloomerang Dwarf Pink’® (PW) is a classic but mini lilac; Weigela ‘My Monet Sunset’ (PW) is perfect for small spaces and produces nonstop color; Clethera alnifolia ‘Ruby Spice’ is a sweetly fragrant summersweet. Shrubs are $15 each.

Annuals Include; a spectacular plant for large containers and cut flowers named Amaranthus caudatus ‘Emerald Tassels’; Angelonia angustifolia ‘Serenita Raspberry’ grows quickly and blooms continuously; Begonia x tuberhybrida ‘On Top® Sunset Shades’ (PW) blooms all season; Brassica oleracea ‘Lacinato Dinosaur’ is an Italian heirloom; Calibrachoa hybrid ‘Superbells® Holy Cow!™ (PW) has a cascading growth and abundant petunia-like flowers; Callistephus chinensis ‘Matsumoto Blue Tipped White’ provides a dramatic floral display of two inch flowers; Catharanthus roseus ‘Tattoo™ Papaya’ is a staple of a cottage gardens; Dianthus chinensis var. heddewigii ‘Black and White Minstrels’ (HP) is a standout plant with eye-catching color and appeal; Petunia ‘Crazytunia Cosmic Purple’ has huge blossoms of velvety magenta and dark raspberry; Petunia Easy Wave ‘Flag Mix’ is a great patriotic mix with endless color; Portulaca hybrid ‘ColorBlast Double Magenta’ has dramatic blooms and is great for container gardening; Rudbeckia hirta ‘Denver Daisy’ will flower all season with excellent interest in containers; Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Bloom’ attracts lots of hummingbirds; Tagetes patula ‘Fireball’ is a newly introduced “New World Marigold”; Tithonia rotundifolia Mexican Sunflower (HP) attracts pollinators to its bright orange flowers; Triticum durum ‘Black Tip’ is an ornamental wheat that brings unique accents to your garden; Zinnia elegans Giant Cactus Mix is great for tall borders for long lasting blooms; Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Double Click Bicolor Violet’ is great for containers and pollinators love them.  Annuals are priced individually and range from $4-$5 each.
